“A beautifully written piece by Helena Fox, brought to life by elegant direction…An outstanding and memorable example of community theatre at its best. A pleasure to see this quality of work. “ Martin Vander Weyer, Journalist for The Spectator, The Telegraph & Sunday Telegraph.
‘The Kissing Ring’- a play for the community- was commissioned by Helmsley Arts Centre, 2015, funded by Arts Council England and performed on 20th & 21st June at The Old Meeting House, Helmsley Arts Centre.
About the play: Set in the atmospheric landscape of the North York Moors, interweaving recorded testimonies, folklore and traditions of the 1800’s, and crossing the planes of time, Helena Fox’s hauntingly evocative and poetic new play explores a forgotten culture of ritual and superstition, where young love can be bought with a witch’s charm, and children dance the Kissing Ring.
“Blown away by beautiful performance of The Kissing Ring Saturday night…a lovely story of local folklore so well told.” Audience member
